Achilles tendon

The Achilles tendon is the strongest tendon in the human body. It connects the calf muscle with the heel bone. Since the Achilles tendon is exposed to very high loads, injuries can often occur. Athletes especially, like the god who gave the Achilles tendon its name in Greek mythology, often have their most vulnerable spot there. Diseases or injuries of the Achilles tendon always lead to problems when walking. The cause can be a tear (rupture) or overstretching of the Achilles tendon. Likewise, rudimentary inflammation of the Achilles tendon can cause pain.

Achillessehnenriss

The application of force in the context of an injury can lead to a tear of the Achilles tendon. A loud noise is often audible. Depending on one’s age and degree of activity, the rupture of the Achilles tendon can be treated without surgery or with an Achilles tendon suture in the course of an operation.

Ansatzentzündung/ Haglundferse

There may also be problems in the area of the Achilles tendon attachment (transition between tendon and bone). A distinction is made between pain caused by the protrusion of the upper heel bone (Haglund's heel) and pain directly at the tendon/bone transition. Basically, the therapy comprises the use of suitable insoles, physical measures and strengthening exercises. However, if no improvement is achieved, an operation is necessary.

I would be happy to advise you on the therapy options for your Achilles tendon problems during an appointment in my practice.
