Instability of the ankle is a common problem. The upper ankle is a joint formed by the anklebone, tibia and fibula. The joint is guided by the bony form and ligaments. The ligaments are very important here and consist of the three-part outer ligament, the fan-shaped inner ligament and the syndesmosis (ligament connection between fibula and shinbone).
Ligament injuries to the ankle (strains, tears) disturb the function of the ligaments. If these do not heal properly, chronic instability remains. This manifests itself through pain, swelling and a feeling of instability. If this clinical picture is not treated correctly, it leads to problems and the promotion of possible early joint wear.
If an imaging clarification ensures that there is no consequential damage to the ankle, an attempt can be made to alleviate the symptoms through physiotherapy and stabilisation training.
If these measures do not lead to any improvement, stabilisation operations are performed. I am an internationally recognized expert with regard to this surgical method and am constantly working on the development of modern techniques. In particular, minimally invasive arthroscopic procedures ("keyhole surgery") are used, which enable rapid regeneration. An operation on the foot and ankle eliminates pain and the feeling of instability and allows full sporting activity to be resumed.
I would be happy to advise you during a personal consultation in my Ordination.
